Film - Storytelling
For as long as I can remember I had given myself the ability to create work based on experiences from my life, through my journal entries. In addition to this, I use Emotions as the muse for the images I create. Through a process of looking through my journal entries from 2016 to present day I compiled my words to convey experiences and vulnerability, to bring a perspective of emotions to light. With the use film photography, the entries are written on overlays over the negatives, creating this raw and poetic entanglement between emotions and self-portraits. I saw my entries as a way of reflecting the emotions I considered to keep within myself, as well as using myself as the subject portraying the personal experience of each entry. We as humans suppress our emotions and that is what I want to convey to an audience. For many we take the experiences of life and deal with them in our own ways, but often our methods are ineffective and harmful to the mind, body, and soul. This collection is the depiction of growing from the obstacle’s life hands you, as an artist, and as a human. Art in a way is a form of storytelling no matter how I intend to share my images, each one is a story that tells the viewer something that is in the form of honesty.
